I doubt the OVA will be a animated summary of the final volume. The anime company needs the whole, complete story + drawings of the manga before starting to animate an episode. It takes a while to animate an episode, and a whole volume’s worth of story takes even longer.
Unless the manga final volume was delayed on purpose to give the animators time to do their work.
And why would they give away a disc with animated final volume, when they can sell it as OVA? It takes money to produce an OVA, giving it away for free seems like bad business.
I think Feral is right, it must be a commemorative music video, something quick to make
My random guess is that there will be two volumes left uncovered by the anime at the end of Season 6 — but what you say makes a lot of sense, actually. Guess I’d like to see the final part of the tale animated properly by the people who have done well at it with the anime these past 6 seasons or by the folks who did the movie, not some group that throws something together to distribute free with the final volume. Guess we’ll have to wait and see and hope for something nice!
There is a LOT of OVAs that are bundled together with manga volumes for free, and their quality are usually the same as those that are sold as OVAs. So that doesn’t mean anything.
The OVA manga volume came out on the 17th of December just to give you guys a heads up. It’s on the website for major Shonen Sunday for 1,980 yen, roughly $23 USD right now.
Nice, but why do I get the feeling it’ll be some type of music video montage type of deal.
Not necessary. If the 6th indeed is the last season, maybe the OVA will conclude the story.
Interesting! This may be a decent way of finishing up the anime — if there won’t be enough manga material left for an actual 7th season or a movie.

Right. After all these years, Major deserves a strong finish.
