And an amazing finale…

25

Calan says: Guys, I just finished editing this. I have long been saying that I’ll quit fansubbing at the end of this season, and that is still my plan. That means that this was my last edit. Ever. I’ve been a part of fansubs of this show for almost every season, so it is kind of a special show for me already. It’s been made even more special by being the last show I’ll ever edit. Anyway, I don’t want this to get too long, so I just wanted to say thanks for enjoying this season with me, and everyone here at Umai. Enjoy the episode (soon, I promise!).

  • The manga recently concluded in the 32nd issue of Sh?nen Sunday for 2010, while the 78th and final volume of the manga series is set to be released in the middle of December 2010 together with a special original video animation.[

  • Blasphemy you cant do this without finishing the QC!! aaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!

  • Spoiler pic is spoiler.

  • i hope they will make minimum 2h ova in december :D

  • + is there a other (or its planned) good sports anime that we can watch now?? (except giant killing)

  • It really is an amazing finale I watched it twice and cried each time, lol. I can wait for the OVA in Dec! Hope you guys will be subbing that too!

  • where’s our starting pitcher encoder-kun???

  • I’m VERY Disaapointed in the people putting the anime together over in JPN. Theyre cramming about 2 full volumes into the space of two episodes. Talk about a hack and slash job. We got sold short a bit here. The episodes themselves have been fantastic, but from viewing the Raws, we got snubbed a good episode++ on it. Which means the remaining roughly 3 1/2 – 4 volumes after S6 Ep 25 will be smushed into an OVA. If it’s any shorter than 120 minutes it’d be a true snubbing of the fans and selling at the very least, volumes 75 & 76 short (enough material in those two volumes to make a half dozen episodes out of alone) They could have made a S7 without losing anything.

Anyhow, regardless, it’s been great with you guys doing this for us, and I have to thank you for the time and effort you put into it. Looking forward to this week’s release. Hoping to hear from you guys on what your next series you’ll be picking up will be as well as the anticipated OVA.

Thanks again for all you did for us this year!

  • I still think a season 7 is possible. It just doesn’t have to be 25 episodes. 12 or 13 episodes would do it justice. There literally is no way they can finish it off in an OVA no matter what the length.

  • You should totally translate the last 5 volumes of the manga or something *hint, hint*

  • I pretty much don’t see any reason for a season 7. If it ended on episode 24, the new season would probably be something like the summarized episode 25. They could have made an episode 26. The past seasons ended with 26 episodes. So why not? :P

I can’t wait for the upcoming OVA – I hope it is about the match against the Raiders. Didn’t Goro wanted to take revenge against Junior back in the World Series? Maybe Goro will pull off a 110 MPH pitch to win against him :)

Thanks for subbing this amazing anime. d(^^ d

    • Except the Hornets vs Raiders doesn’t happen until a time skip occurs. And Goro cannot play in the playoffs this year anyways. And the manga goes beyond the World Series as well for a little bit to close off the manga. I wouldn’t care about the anime that much if the manga was just translated. But it isn’t :|

    • I certainly hope not, since it’s literally impossible for a human being to throw a baseball 110 MPH, the amount of torque that would be placed on the elbow would snap it. We’ve all overlooked the numerous errors that have been made for the sake of drama, but hopefully they won’t actually start breaking scientific laws for that sake.

  • OMG! OMG! 110 MPH with his RIGHT! :O

  • The ending was fucking dumb. They put giant fucking spoilers (which I knew about already but too bad for fans who wanted to read the manga after this season) at the end as a way to “close” the series. Too fucking lazy to make episodes for the remaining chapters in the manga, even though it wouldn’t be a 26 episode season.

  • i think there is still chance to revive manga, after sometime they can decide to make more volumes

things like this happens even after few years ;p they can even run something special like goro and shimizu son play baseball :D

but still i want more sports anime in japan ;/ actually only Giant Killing left to watch (that is still aired) :(
someone know any other good sports anime that is still aired or its planned to air??

    • Have you watched Cross Game (or read the manga)? That was a good one. Don’t know about any that are currently running or coming out in the near future though.

    • Baseball: One Outs, OOkiku Furikabutte
      Gambling: Kaiji

All realistic, seinen sports anime. Major is listed as shonen but it could pass for seinen.

      • I hear One Outs is good, still need to get my hands on it.

        • One outs is an amazing anime,i definetelly recomend u watching. It is a baseball anime whose main character is like “Kira” from death note.A perfect combination of phsychology and baseball, from my point of view,a true masterpiece. One of the best main characters ever.

    • I didn’t really like One Outs because it wanted to be too smart, but Ookiku Furikabutte is a really amazing show. It’s the most realistic sports anime I’ve ever seen (Major is really unrealistic).

I recommend Cross Game too, and if you don’t mind girls playing baseball, Taisho Yakyuu Musume could be a good watch too (though it’s much lighter than a “ture” sports anime).

About upcoming sports anime… there is none announced at the moment, so it looks like we’ll be left without them for a while.

    • I know you said still airing/going to air, but if you are willing to go back a bit, I suggest Captain and Play Ball. They’re good, mindless fun baseball shows.

I’ll also second Taisho Yakyuu Musume.

Just for fun, I’ll throw in a manga, Ace of Diamond. It’s still ongoing.

I’m going to be hated for saying this, but I didn’t like Ookiku Furikabutte. It is by far the most realistic baseball anime I’ve seen, and to me that was the only good thing about it (that’s because I’m a baseball/softball nut).

My problem is that I couldn’t get attached to the characters; since I couldn’t get attached, I didn’t care what happened to them, so there was no drama. The first game is like 5 episodes long, and the whole time I was bored because I didn’t care how well he pitched…

But check it out anyway. You might like it.

    • “Ookiku Furikabutte” and “Cross Game” are both incredible baseball series (both better than Major even, IMO). If you don’t mind getting a little shojou-ish, “Princess Nine” and “Taishou Yakyuu Musume” are also solid baseball series.

“Haijime no Ippo” (boxing) is the best sports-related anime/manga in history though, IMO. I would definitely suggest you check that out.

  • sigh, from reading the comments here it seems that:

episode 25 is a summary of several manga volumes. Meaning that episode 25 itself is a huge spoiler.

Imagine season 4 had an episode summarizing season 5, not as enjoyable as watching the whole season 5.

Other Major seasons had 26 episodes, Giant Killing has 26 episodes. Yet this season of Major has 25. So there will not be another season.

    • The majority of it is actually 1:1 from the manga. It’s the last couple of minutes that suddenly start summarizing the manga.

If you don’t want to be spoiled I suggest stop watching the episode at 21 minutes. Track down the manga and enjoy getting the actual story instead of a montage.

      • I see, thanks for the info. It’s too bad that animators tend to ignore the last volumes of sports manga.

Take Eyeshield 21 for example, there are 2 more US football matches in the manga that never got animated. And they were really good plot-wise too.

Maybe the ratings for these anime have dropped after 6+ seasons, who knows. You’d think that after Matsui won the World Series MVP it would help Major ratings a bit, but I guess not.

      • Do you by chance know where exactly in the manga S6 leaves off at at that 21m mark?

  • hi, do you know where can i download the manga volumes? thanks

  • omg i cant believe it ended i want more Goro

  • excuse me but who is translating major S6 EP25 ??????? isn’t it umai???

    • I expect they are, but they just got Ep. 24 out, so maybe they need a break between episodes. ;-) Also, it’s a new week starting with lots of Real Life going on, so it may be a day or two before we get an update on how work on the final episode is going.

I kind of feel like prolonging the process (though not too long!). I really don’t want Major to be over!

  • no no i mean (who is) translating episode 25??

  • it is umai isnt that correct??

  • because i saw this site http://www.animecrazy.net and when i searched in i saw that they have published major season 6 episode 25 with the subs so please explain to me what is happening??

    • Those videos at Animecrazy that say they are subbed don’t work — and I am certain they can’t be subbed versions. Only two groups are working on Major — Umai and MJN, and MJN has not gotten up to this point in their subbing as yet.

  • i have a question about this, will there be any new Season of the anime(ova not counted) or is major 6th the last series of major to be made ??

  • thank you margo you mean umai is better in translating major than MJN ???

    • Well, they are faster! You can decide for yourself if faster means better. In my opinion, the quality between the two groups is not all that different.

  • wow..is it really the last episode? i already watched the raw.. there should be another season for this anime.. ireally love this one.. and it’s great that Goro and Toshi will be playing in hornets..

  • So are you planning on posting an update on episode 25s progress? Would much rather that than a pointless post like this.

  • There we go, thanks.

  • i watched all sports anime that were translated into english
(i only hold on watching inazuma eleven)

i even watchig one outs when they air it 1 epsiode per week form start to end of this series

thats why i ask for new sports anime series that they start or plan to start airing

even giant killing is ended, but i think they will make new eps because manga is still ongoing

its hard to belive for me that there will be only 1 sports anime (inazuma eleven) that will be aired in japanese tv to end of this year ;/

  • No progress today?

  • dont be too lazy Calan plz :( we r waiting

  • Thanks for all your work, Calan, and for being a good sport about all the teasing you had to endure while you were doing it. ;-) It’s a special episode to be called your last one — and I’m pleased to hear you’ve been with Major for so long. Thanks for sticking it out until the end!

  • Thanks for the work, Calan.

  • Look at these page . . . .

Don’t believe in US who believes in you. . .
Don’t believe in you who believes in US. . .

    BUT BELIEVE IN YOURSELF . . .

Hope there’s somebody that will read this page(TOPtoBTM)

And make their eyes itching and tired of reading . . .

  • Thx for an amazing job

  • Calan lies, nobody really retires from fansubbing. It’s like Micheal Corleone says: Once I’m out… they pull me back in.

Loads of fun working on this series with everyone. I’m glad DrX dragged me out of my fansub hiatus to help with series.
Everyone on the team is loads of fun to work with and wicked good at each of their individual tasks. Not to mention, Nanne is probably one of the best timer’s out there. BB is a patient TL. Encoders, distro, AFX, Typesetters and fellow QC’ers are all exceptionally great to hang out with as well. Hope everyone enjoyed it as much as I did.

  • Guys i just want to thank you for all your job. You did an amazing job
